This modern finish is the perfect intermediate between gloss and matt, bringing out the depth of colours without distracting glare. The spray can makes applying the varnish easy and even. The varnish protects the artwork from dirt, grease, and UV damage, ensuring its longevity. It is also removable with white spirit or turpentine, allowing the work to be cleaned or re-varnished in the future. When to Use It? Satin varnish is the ideal choice when you want to protect a finished oil, alkyd, or acrylic painting and give it a uniform, subtle sheen. It is particularly suitable for situations where: You want to reduce the reflections of a glossy surface but do not want a completely matt result.You want to deepen dark tones and unify any variations in the surface sheen of the painting.The artwork will be placed in a space where lighting might cause glare. Usage Tips Ensure Dryness: Allow the painting to dry completely before varnishing. A drying time of 6–12 months is recommended for oil and alkyd paintings, and at least 72 hours for acrylics.Prepare the Space: Use the varnish in a dust-free and well-ventilated area. Protect the surroundings and place the painting on a flat surface.Shake Well: Shake the can vigorously for about a minute before use and periodically during use.Spray Correctly: Hold the can upright, about 25–30 cm (10-12 inches) away from the painting's surface. Spray in thin, even coats. Move the can from side to side across the painting, slightly overlapping each pass. It is better to apply 2-3 thin coats than one thick one.Clean the Nozzle: After use, turn the can upside down and spray for a few seconds until only propellant gas is released. This prevents the nozzle from clogging.
