Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylic Mediums – Unleash the Full Potential of Your Acrylics Acrylic paints need mediums too. Winsor & Newton's Galeria painting mediums are designed to give you complete control over the properties of your acrylic colours. Change the paint's consistency, adjust the drying time, modify the final finish, and add brilliance and depth to your colours. Unlike with oils, you don't have to follow the "fat over lean" rule where each layer of paint must be more flexible than the last. Since acrylic paints and mediums share the same emulsion base, they dry at the same rate, and there is no risk of cracking. Painting Mediums For extending colours, mediums are best as they, when mixed with the paint, preserve the strong pigments and provide additional working time. Gloss Medium: Added to the colour to increase flow and transparency and to achieve a glossy finish. (Jar 250 ml)Matt Medium: Added to the colour to increase flow and transparency and to achieve a matt finish. (Jar 250 ml) Varnishes Once the painting is finished, it is good practice to protect the work with a varnish. Varnish protects the piece from dirt and dust and gives it a uniform, finished surface. Available in two finishes: Gloss Varnish: Gives the work a clear, glossy final coat. (Bottle 250 ml)Matt Varnish: Gives the work a non-reflective, matt final coat. (Bottle 250 ml)Instructions for use: Apply with a varnish brush, which should be kept damp during use and washed thoroughly immediately after. Two coats of varnish are recommended, with a 2-4 hour interval between applications. Do not apply the first coat until the painting is touch-dry.Adjusting the sheen: By mixing gloss and matt varnish, different levels of sheen can be achieved.Removal: To remove, use an acrylic varnish remover.
